Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force, Central Zone, raided an illegal food manufacturing unit in the Bazarghat area of Nampally on Saturday, and found some people adulterating garlic paste using bathroom cleaner and artificial colour.

The suspect, Shameem Akthar, 47, had been running the unit named ‘S.I. Products’ and had been preparing adulterated ginger garlic paste.

“He buys poor quality ginger and garlic from the market and uses bathroom cleaning acids and colours. The production is done cheaply and he gets a huge margin when he sells in the market,” said a senior official of the Task Force.

“He had also employed five salesmen to market the product. Besides selling them in Malakpet, Saidabad and Secunderabad he was also sending products to Bengaluru and Chennai," the official added.

Police seized four quintals of adulterated ginger garlic paste, 25 litres of bathroom cleaning acid, a mixing machine, packets of artificial colours and other products.
