Madras HC notice to Tamil Nadu over law officers appointment
Chennai: The Madras high court has ordered notice to the state government on a petition, which challenged the appointment of law officers in various courts in Villupuram district.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M.Sundar also ordered notice to the new appointees, numbering 23 while posting to July 8, further hearing of a PIL filed by advocate V.G. Natarjan, which also sought a direction to the authorities to redo the whole selection process in a fair, objective and transparent manner in accordance with the dictum laid down by the SC.
According to petitioner, a post of law officer was not a political one, but it was a public post with greater responsibility in the administration of justice. Unless the appointment of law officers was made fairly based on merit and integrity, the justice delivery system would be in peril.
However, these 23 persons having affinity with the party in power have been appointed as additional public prosecutors and additional government pleaders and other such posts without considering their ability, the petitioner added.
