Family, followers and friend bid adieu to Palvai Govardhan Reddy
Hyderabad: Family members, friends, prominent political leaders and thousands of people bid a tearful adieu to veteran Congress leader and Rajya Sabha Member Palvai Govardhan Reddy whose last rites were performed with state honours on Saturday. Palvai had died of a massive cardiac arrest on Friday. The TS government accorded him a state funeral that took place at his native village Idikuda of Chandur mandal in Nalgonda district. The funeral rites were performed by his elder son Palvai Sravan Kumar Reddy.
Thousands of people thronged Palvai’s residence for a final glimpse of the late leader. Political leaders cutting across party lines participated in the funeral procession in large numbers. TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, CLP leader K. Jana Reddy, power minister G. Jagadish Reddy, Nalgonda MP Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Congress MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, party leaders Vayalar Ravi, V. Hanumantha Rao, Sabitha Indra Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Jeevan Reddy, Dasoju Sravan, R.C. Kuntia and Marri Shashidhar Reddy, TRS MLAs Gyadari Kishore and Vemula Veeresham, MLCs Karne Prabhakar and Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, BJP district president Nukala Narsimha Reddy, CPM leaders Julakanti Ranga Reddy and Mudireddy Sudhakar Reddy and others attended the final rites.
Palvai’s body was transported to his native village from Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday where a large number of leaders, activists of various political parties and people had paid their last respects to the departed soul. Earlier in the day, Vice-President Hamid Ansari and AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi were among those who paid floral tributes to Palvai in New Delhi, when his body was flown from Shimla.
