Bengaluru: Ex-soldier opens fire, brave constable catches him

In the heat of the argument, Jagadish took out his pistol and fired at the floor to scare the shop owner.

Bengaluru: A retired serviceman, who fired at the floor to threaten a two-wheeler showroom owner, was caught by an alert police constable, who was nearby, at Kengeri on Saturday.

Around 4 pm on Saturday, the ex-serviceman, N.D. Jagadish, went to Satellite Motors in Kengeri in Kengeri Sattelite Town police limits and picked up a fight with the showroom owner, Mohammad Shafiullah, for the delay in handing over the bike, which he had booked on March 31.

In the heat of the argument, Jagadish took out his pistol and fired at the floor to scare the shop owner. On hearing the gunshot, Police Constable Chandrappa, who was nearby, rushed to the showroom and caught hold of Jagadish.

In the fight, a worker in the showroom, Farhan, sustained minor injuries on his right hand.

The DCP (West) has awarded Chandrappa for his quick action and courage in apprehending the armed man. Jagadish, an ex-serviceman, served in the 106-Parachute Regiment. He took voluntary retirement in August 2016 and is working as a security guard at a company on Cunningham Road.
