Lawyers do a Gandhigiri' over allocation of Andhra Pradesh staff

The Bar Association members took up a unique style of protest on Friday.

Warangal: Protesting against the provisional allocation of judicial officers between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, judges, advocates and judicial employees in Warangal continued their week-long strike for the fifth day and announced that they would boycott the Lok Adalat scheduled to be held on Saturday at the district court complex.

The Bar Association members took up a unique style of protest on Friday. They offered roses to judges and lawyers who belong to Andhra Pradesh and asked them to leave so that local lawyers would get employment. The non-local lawyers also responded positively to the requests.

Warangal Bar Association’s general secretary T.V. Ramana said the lawyers have played their part in the agitation for Telangana but even after the formation of the state they are not getting their due benefits. He said they would boycott the national Lok Adalat to be held on Saturday.

“The High Court gave an option to the lawyers from Andhra Pradesh to either leave for AP or stay back in Telangana. Because of this, many have opted to stay back in Telangana. If this continues, the employment opportunities for the law graduates would decline till the next 10 to 15 years. The state government, instead of acting on the issue, is only wasting time with discussions. So we have decided to boycott the national Lok Adalat on Saturday as a mark of our protest,” he said. The lawyers have planned to conduct Chalo Hyderabad to lay siege to the High Court on Monday.
