2-man panel to devise road map for Secretariat shift in Amaravati

It is still not clear whether the secretariat departments will all be shifted on June 27.

Hyderabad: AP chief secretary S.P. Tucker has constituted a committee, consisting of two IAS officers, special chief secretary of youth services L.V Subrahmanyam, and principal secretary, State Reorganisation (SR) L. Premachandra Reddy, who will prepare a road map for shifting the administration from Hyderabad to the Amaravati capital region.

Mr Tucker held discussions with them on Friday in this regard. The road map for the shifting of the secretariat departments may not be possible to devise unless the officers are apprised of the schedule of completion of buildings in the temporary secretariat complex at Velagapudi in the capital city.

It is still not clear whether the secretariat departments will all be shifted on June 27, as decided by the state government, or only some of them will. Some secretariat employees have already admitted their children in schools in the capital region and begun living in rented accommodation.

While schools reopen on June 13, employees are in a dilemma about shifting their families as the state has not issued any orders on the shift.

The IAS officers' committee, which is expected to offer some clarity on this, will glean from CRDA officials the exact status of the temporary secretariat's construction before finalising the road map.

The committee will also discuss with CRDA officials the location of each department in the particular block of the temporary secretariat. The government is considering the Secretariat Employees Association's request regarding letting some employees shift to the capital region before June 13 in view of schools reopening.
