Kalaburagi: Priyank Kharge hails verdict
Kalaburagi: Minister for Social Welfare Priyank Kharge has hailed the Supreme Court order on reservation in promotions for SC/ST employees in government service. Speaking to the media, Mr Priyank said though he was yet to go through details of the judgement, he had learnt that the SC has upheld the Act passed by the state government which provides for reservation in promotions. "It's our responsibility to see that no injustice is done to any section of society. We will take all necessary measures in this regard.
The injustice which was done to the SC/STs has been set right by the government and the SC has upheld its order. The interests of employees of other categories, who have already been promoted, will also be safeguarded. We will discuss the details of the SC order with the Chief Secretary and prepare a department-wise list of officers due for promotion," he added. Asked whether those who have been promoted will be demoted in the wake of the SC order, the Minister said it cannot be done. “We will find a solution,” he added. Asked how justice would be ensured to officers who have been already demoted, Mr Priyank said, "we will try to restore their dignity by restoring their grade. They need not be given the same post, but their grade will be restored.”
