Coimbatore: Bomb threat call keeps cops on tenterhooks
Coimbatore: Tension prevailed at Podanur police station in Coimbatore after a bomb threat call from the control room late on Thursday night turned out to be a hoax.
According to police, staff on duty at the Chennai police control room received a call from Vellalor. The person who spoke said that a few suspects were roaming around his house late at night and had planted bombs around his house. He disconnected the call.
Acting on the call Chennai police control room alerted Coimbatore control room staff on duty. The message was passed to Podanur inspector Maheswaran and a team led by the inspector along with bomb squad experts rushed to the spot near Konavaikal Palayam and searched for long. But nothing was found, while the caller was found to be a mentally ill man, whose father apologised.
