Blaming EVMs is like faulting umpire for losing wicket: PM Modi

Mr Modi accused Mr Naidu and other leaders of the Opposition of abusing him in their single point programmes.

Hyderabad: An irked Prime Minister Narendra Modi finally reacted to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s remarks pertaining to the EVMs.
Under the leadership of Mr Naidu, 21 Opposition parties have repeatedly pressed the Election Commission of India to resolve their EVM-related grievances and had even moved the Supreme Court.

In a recent interview, Mr Modi said that the leaders who had persistently been alleging that the EVMs could be manipulated were the ones who had more or less realised that they were going to lose the elections.

He drew a comparison between such leaders and egotistic cricketers or guilty students. Mr Modi said, “We have witnessed quite often during cricket matches that when a batsman is declared bowled, he might still challenge the umpire’s decision even if his defeat is palpable. Similarly, a student who knows he might fail in a certain examination begins to devise explanations to back his failure. He could blame his examination desk. He could blame the teacher. Similarly, even the Opposition is looking for reasons to explain their failure in the Lok Sabha elections. After all, blaming the Election Commission of India is the easiest way out.”

Mr Modi accused Mr Naidu and other leaders of the Opposition of abusing him in their single point programmes. He also commented on the election campaigns conducted by Mr Naidu in other states.

Mr Modi expressed confidence that his sarkar will continue to remain in power.
