Miyapur: No respite from sewage for Bhanu township

Residents complain that slugs and snakes enter their homes.

Hyderabad: Numerous complaints by residents of Bhanu Township, Miyapur, over the last four years regarding sewage flowing on to the open land in their locality have fallen on deaf ears.

About 550 families reside in the area. The sewage water drains from nearby residential and industrial units and causes a foul stench, increases the mosquito menace, pollutes ground water. Residents complain that slugs and snakes enter their homes.

Due to a marked increase in the drainage flow last year, the water has travelled to an open piece of land that lies next to a residential plot housing several posh villas. During the monsoons last year, the increased sewage had seeped into the villa plots and had resulted in the collapse of the compound wall. While the wall was built again, the drainage pipeline was not laid.

Mr M Divindra Reddy, president of May Flower Villas Welfare Association, said, "From GHMC engineers to the deputy commissioner, everyone has visited the site, including the local MLA. Initially they said the drainage pipeline had been sanctioned but now they say there is a pending court case.”

He said the association had approached the owner of the open land, who agreed to get a pipeline laid but there was no co-operation from the civic body.
