Kerala: 83.75 per cent pass higher secondary exams

A total of 3,09,065 students passed, out of whom 14,375 scored A+ in all subjects, whereas the number was 11,829 in 2017.

Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 180 candidates scored full marks with 1, 200 out of 1, 200 in the higher secondary examination, the results of which were announced by Education Minister C. Raveendranath here on Thursday. The overall pass percentage is 83.75, a slight increase from last year's 83.37. A total of 3,09,065 students passed, out of whom 14,375 scored A+ in all subjects, whereas the number was 11,829 in 2017.

Of the 3, 69,021 candidates who appeared for the examinations in state syllabus, 3, 09,065 have become eligible for higher studies. The results were announced after adding the marks of the Plus-One examination with that of Plus-Two. In VHSE, 29,174 students appeared for the examination and 90.2 percent secured trade certificate by clearing Part I and Part II. Besides, 80.32 percent candidates won eligibility for higher studies by passing all the three parts.

As many as 69 students secured full A+ in VHSE stream. Kannur has the highest pass percentage, 86.75, in higher secondary and Thrissur in VHSE with 84.38. Pathanamthitta scored the lowest pass percentage of 77.16 in HSE and 69.93 in VHSE. An analysis of the various streams of higher secondary examinations showed that science combination had the highest pass percentage of 85.91.

Commerce and humanities streams recorded 85.22 percent and 76.21 percent respectively. The technical higher secondary stream had a pass percentage of 76.77 while Art-Kalamandalam stream recorded a pass percentage of 82.11. As many as 79 schools had hundred percent victory in terms of the number of students who became eligible for higher studies. In the open school category (Scole), of the 67, 911 who appeared for the higher secondary examinations, 25,503 passed (37.51 percent). Last year, the pass percentage was 31.89.
