FIR filed against RR Nagar MLA in EPIC scam

The police had also summoned MLA Munirathna, who was named accused number 14 in the FIR, to question him in connection with the case.

Bengaluru: Two days after a massive voter id scandal rocked the state with nearly 10,000 Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) being seized from an apartment in Jalahalli, the police have registered an FIR against the Congress candidate and sitting MLA of Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Munirathna Naidu and 13 others for their involvement in the scandal.

Bhaskar J R, the Nodal Officer of the Model Code of Conduct Flying Squad in Rajarajeshwari Nagar assembly constituency had filed a complaint with the Jalahalli police against the congress MLA Muni rathna Naidu and 13 people including seven women.

On Tuesday afternoon, the election officials received an information on election irregularities and the election officials along with the police raided the flat no. 115 in SLV Park View Apartment at Srimatha Layout in Sharadamba Nagar in Jalahalli where as many as 9,746 Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) were found, they immediately seized all the EIPC cards, laptops, mobile phones, printers and other documents in the apartment. The accused have been identified as Sarid Momen, Ponnayyamma, Chinna Tambi, Lakshma mma, Manjula Nanjamari, Rashmi, Lali thamma, Chinnadorai, Rekha, Nataraj K, Krishnappa, Sharavana, Manjunatha and Munirathna.

The apartment belonged to the one Manjula Nanjamari who had rented it out to Rekha a month ago. A year ago, Rangaraju and his sister Rekha had rented a flat (no. 007) at the SLV Park View Apartment. They were staying together and last month Rangaraju approached them and asked for a separate flat for Rekha. The Flat no. 115 which was empty was rented out to her.

The police had questioned Manjula who claimed that she has no connection with the incident and also cleared that she does not represent any political party. Her son Sreedhar Nanjamari was also questioned by the police who stated the same as his mother.

The police had also summoned MLA Munirathna, who was named accused number 14 in the FIR, to question him in connection with the case. The police said that Rekha and her brother Rangaraju both are currently absconding and efforts are on to nab them and the other accused.
