Wind, hail to lash Telangana for next 2 days
Hyderabad: Telangana state is put under a thunderstorm warning for the next 24 hours and this condition is likely to remain so for the next few days.
There is likelihood of hailstorm, dusty winds, thunder and lighting. Districts like Vikarabad, Medak, Sanga Reddy and north-west of Hyderabad reported thunderstorm on Wednesday afternoon. The sudden change in the weather condition is due to the trough (presence of upper air) from Telangana to Tamil Nadu.
The local weather bureau has also announced that the conditions are favourable for the advance of the South- West monsoon over south Andaman Sea and the Nicobar Islands by around May 15.
Speaking to this newspaper on the early onset of the South–West Monsoon this season, IMD-Hyderabad director Y.K. Reddy said, “The parameters that indicate the onset of monsoon activity over the island show favourable conditions. We estimate an advance onset over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.” However, he said, there is yet no exact date for the Kerala onset.
Generally, the monsoon rains touch the island after May 20. “This year, we estimate it to be by May 16. Once the monsoon sets in, it would take 10 to 12 days to hit the Kerala coast,” he said.
From there, it takes 3-5 days to reach Rayalseema and another 5-7 days to touch Telangana. The weather man would announce the date of arrival of south-west monsoon in Telangana after May 15.
