Telangana housing projects back
Hyderabad: Housing projects for middle and upper middle classes undertaken by the state government are back on the agenda after nearly a decade. Telangana state government will begin construction of duplex and independent houses and flats in 13 locations, nine of them in and around the city.
The government will issue demand notification within two weeks seeking applications from prospective buyers. The price will be finalised and included in the notification. The housing project work was stalled after 2007 due to the slump in the real estate sector.
“We have recently finalised the 13 locations where these projects will come up. The TS Housing Board has been asked to issue the demand notification within two weeks to assess the demand for these ventures. We are hopeful of getting good response from prospective buyers since the houses will be priced competitively compared to private ventures,” said A. Indrakaran Reddy, the minister for housing. The Congress government in undivided AP started several housing projects after setting up a housing corporation and also entered into joint venture projects with private builders between 2004 and 2009.
The projects could not be completed due to realty slump in 2008. More than 3,500 3BHK, 2BHK Rajiv Swagruha flats in the city are incomplete. The Telangana government has recently decided to allot those flats to government employees for a price lower than what it has incurred for construction. Why not complete these for the new scheme?
