Priority for infra plans: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation
Vijayawada: Newly appointed commissioner for Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) J. Nivas took charge on Wednesday. Speaking to reporters on the occasion, he said public comfort is his top priority in delivering services from the civic body.
He observed that the dumping yard issue has been a problem in Vijayawada and it would be resolved in a time bound manner. He said many developmental projects were started during the tenure of his predecessor and those projects would be completed at the earliest.
Mr Nivas also said demand for urban housing is always high and given the vast migration to the city after it was made as part of the capital, there will be an increased demand for new houses in Vijayawada.
The existing housing projects in the city would be taken up on priority and encroachment regularisation issues would be dealt with according to the government policy also on priority, he added. He said there would be zero tolerance towards corruption and warned the officials of stringent action if found guilty.
Even before taking charge, Mr Nivas toured in the city to examine the sanitation works. He expressed dissatisfaction over the garbage flowing out from the filled dumper bins and throwing of garbage in empty lands near Ramavarappadu Ring.
