Andhra Pradesh: Ancient treasure found at Srisailam
Kurnool: Ancient treasure was been unearthed at Srisailam on Wednesday. The treasure was found at the surrounding areas of Ghantaravam around Mallikarjuna Swamy temple where Jeernodharna works pertaining to Ghanta Matham are going on.
The treasure includes 699.930 grams of gold ornaments, comprising three gold kadiyams weighing 524.520 gm, 18 gold coins and four rings. Apart from this, the treasure includes 147 silver coins, silver vessel weighing 394.610 gm and a tumbler weighing 133 gm.
When workers were digging the earth, they came upon some vessels at the main entrance of the Matham. On digging further, the workers found panchaloha coins, two silver vessels, rings and some more articles.
On learning about the find, temple executive officer Narayan Bharat Gupta rushed to the spot and inspected the place. Asked about the quantity of treasure, he told this newspaper that it was a “minor find”. Archaeology department officials are said to be rushing to Srisailam to study about the find.
