24x7 power supply to farms being considered: Telangana Irrigation Minister

The government is at present supply power 24x7 to domestic, industrial and commercial sectors.

Hyderabad: Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao on Wednesday said that the TRS government was considering supplying power 24x7 to agricultural pump sets from next year.

Participating in series of programmes in Patancheru, Jinnaram and Ramachandrapuram where he laid foundation stones for electricity substations, new roads and other developmental works, Mr Rao said that the state government’s priority was to ensure quality power supply and end low-voltage problem.

“In the past, the industrial area had three-day power holiday that caused huge problem to industries as well as workers. Many factories were shut or laid off workers. Not anymore. The TRS government has ensured uninterrupted power supply to both domestic and industrial sector,” Mr Rao said.

He added, “Telangana is the only state in the country to supply 24x7 quality power to domestic, industry and other sectors, barring agriculture. We are thinking of supplying power 24x7 to agricultural pump sets from the present nine hours.”

Mr Harish Rao said that in undivided Medak district, the government had spent Rs 1,438 crore to stabilise power supply to all sectors.

The TRS government has laid special focus on Patancheru Assembly constituency, following former Congress MLA Nandishwar Goud joining the BJP recently.

TRS MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, MLA Mahipal Reddy, MLC Bhupal Reddy and others were present.
