Hyderabad: A pit dug for a talent hunt conducted by a soft drink company claimed the life of a 20-year-old youth who, along with his friends, had entered it to swim on Tuesday.

On Sunday, Thums up had conducted a talent hunt, ‘Thums Thunder’ at a private 25-acre plot in the same village. The programme involved various events including adventure sports in water and for that purpose, a 20-feet wide and 10-feet deep pit had been dug in the premises. After the event was completed on Sunday evening, the authorities had started dismantling the equipment.

On Tuesday afternoon at around 3 pm, Abhilash and his two friends Naveen, studying Class X and Rajesh, studying in Class VIII came to the spot. While Naveen and Rajesh knew how to swim, Abhilash did not. While the workers at the spot were having lunch, the three jumped the wall and entered the compound.

“The three entered the pit and started to play. While Naveen and Rajesh managed to swim, Abhilash drowned,” said N. Bhaskar, the sub Inspector of Shamshabad police station. As Naveen and Rajesh raised an alarm, the workers rushed to the pit and pulled Abhilash out, but he was already dead.
