Hyderabad: Demolition plan unites villagers
Hyderabad: Following notices to demolish illegal structures issued by the panchayat raj department under the lake protection GO-111, villagers are coming together to protest the proposed action.
GO-111 bars certain constructions within a 10-km radius of Himayatsagar and Osmansagar. Congress leader P. Sabitha Reddy’s son Patolla Karthik Reddy is organising the villagers to protest the notices. Mr Reddy, who has visited 30 of the 84 villages, said a protest would be organised next week.
“They have been protesting since 20 years. We are planning to bring all the groups under one roof,” he said. Although, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had assured that the GO would be revoked or modified to ease some of its stringent provisions, Mr Reddy said that the action of government officials was against the assurance.
“We have filed a petition with the High Court to cancel the GO. But, officials said in the counter-affidavit told the court that there was no necessity to cancel the GO. The district panchayat officer has started serving notices to identified illegal structures. These actions are against the government’s assurance,” he said.
