DMK govt will take steps to cancel entrance exams: M Karunanidhi
Chennai: Condemning the Supreme Court decision to allow Neet for admission into medical courses, the DMK on Tuesday said it would take steps to ensure students in Tamil Nadu get admitted to medical colleges without an entrance exam if it is voted to power in the May 16 Assembly elections.
In a statement, DMK chief M. Karunanidhi also accused the Tamil Nadu Government of not fighting the case “in a proper manner” in
the Supreme Court which rejected the demands for scrapping of the single test for admissions into medical courses.
“If the DMK comes to power after the elections, we will take all necessary steps to withdraw the 2010 Medical Council of Order or to bring an amendment to the law to ensure that students in Tamil Nadu get admission into medical courses without any entrance examination,” he said in the statement.
PMK’s Chief Ministerial candidate Anbumani Ramadoss said the Union Government to bring a legislation to ensure that Neet stands cancelled since it discriminates students belonging to rural areas.
“If the Central Government is not able to bring the law during the Budget Session of Parliament, it should bring an ordinance once the session comes to an end,” he said.
