Vijayawada: Voters in one mandal split in two Lok Sabha, 3 Assembly segments

Before the bifurcation of mandal, all the 14 village panchayats and 19 revenue villages were part of one Assembly and LS segment.

Vijayawada: When it comes to voting, people living in the Vijayawada Rural mandal are split vertically, but this division is not of their own making.

The villages in this mandal come under three Assembly and two Parliamentary constituencies.

While nine village panchayats in the mandal are part of the Gannavaram Assembly and Machilipatnam Parliamentary constituency limits, five others come under Mylavaram Assembly and Vijayawada LS constituencies.

Revenue village Kundavari Kandrika is part of the Vijayawada Central Assembly segment and Vijayawada Parliamentary constituency.

Gudavalli, Nidamanuru, Enikepadu, Prasadampadu, Ramavarappadu, Nunna, Patapadu, P. Ninavaram and Ambapuram are located in Gannavaram Assembly and Machilipatnam Parliamentary constituency limits.

Gollapudi, Rayanipadu, Paidurupadu, Jakkampudi and Kotturu Tadepalli are in Mylavaram Assembly and Vijayawada Parliamentary constituency limits.

This division is creating problems for officials. They say that to conduct any mandal level official meeting, they have to inform the two MPs and three MLAs.

Incidentally, before the bifurcation of mandal, all the 14 village panchayats and 19 revenue villages were part of the Kankipadu Assembly and Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency limits.

Speaking to this newspaper, Thimmisetty Veera Raghavaiah, a businessman, said that earlier, all the villages were part of one segment. Later, the villages in the mandal were shared between Mylavaram, Vijayawada and Gannavaram Assembly segments. “Sometimes it creates logistical problems. However, the people are united, the division is felt only when it comes to casting vote,” he said.
