Hyderabad: Rs 10 lakh found from Congress MP’s ‘aide’

A case has also been registered at the Gachibowli police station on Wednesday, following court orders.

Hyderabad: The police have booked a case against an advocate found to be carrying Rs 10 lakh in cash and said to be an associate of Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, contesting candidate from Chevella Lok Sabha constituency.

The person was carrying some chits which contained details of expenditure in the constituency, details of payments done to various persons and also liquor distribution details, besides some information which was written in code.

According to the Cyberabad police, on Tuesday, the flying squad appointed by the state Election Commission, and the Cyberabad police, stopped Konda Sandeep Reddy at SLN Terminus, a shopping mall, during vehicle checking.

Mr Sandeep Reddy was travelling by car towards Gachibowli from Jubilee Hills and a search found him to be in possession of Rs 10 lakh in cash and a laptop. He failed to provide relevant documents related to the cash and the money was seized. The police also found a B-Form in the car.

“On questioning, it was found that Sandeep Reddy has been associated with Konda Vishweshwar Reddy for a long time and provides legal aid to the politician. He is also a distant relative of the Congress leader. The cash was seized and handed over to the I-T department as per the EC rules, for further enquiry,” said Madhapur ACP N. Shyam Prasad Rao.

A case has also been registered at the Gachibowli police station on Wednesday, following court orders.

Inspector R. Srinivas of the Gachibowli police said that the case has been registered under Sections 171 H and 171 B of the IPC.

“He (Mr Reddy) was carrying some slips in which some expenditure details were present. We have not arrested Sandeep yet, but notices are being served to him to appear for questioning.”

It is learnt that Mr Sandeep Reddy has asked for time to appear before the police as he was not feeling well.

Responding to a query, the inspector said, “We are not sure if the money was meant for distribution to voters, or whether the details present in the slips is about the distributed money. Some information is written in code language and that has to be probed.”

The gadgets taken from his possession have been sent to the cyber crime sleuths for analysis and to discover if any information related to the distribution of cash is present in the devices.
