Ahead of Vishu, cracker vendors get safety lessons
Kozhikode: Vishu is round the corner and people are buying crackers that form the major part of the celebrations. The district administration and Fire and Safety officials conducted a day-long awareness programme and training session for the wholesale and retail traders in the sector on Tuesday, to ensure the safe use of firecrackers and the legalized sales of such products.
The session was attended by more than 150 traders from Kozhikode city, around 60 from Koyilandy Taluk, 40 from Vadakara and 20 from Thamarassery Taluk. Officials distributed the guidelines issued by the district administration in connection with the festival season, in which attending the training session for the firecracker manufactures was a must. After the session, the manufacturers were given certificates, which have to be produced during security inspection at their shops and manufacturing units.
Talking about such an awareness programme, T Rageesh, the District Fire Officer said, “The organization of the class was based on the directive from the State Government to take all the measures to prevent fireworks accidents in the State during the festival season. This is simultaneously being organized in all the Districts in the State. We have also been directed on keeping a close eye on the illegal sales of fire crackers here.”
The traders were given training on how to safely stock crackers and how to avoid accidents in their shop and also how to deal with safety accidents. Fire and safety training was given. The traders were also given directions on separating normal and high-power firecrackers from their outlets, said KT Babyraj, Fire Station officer, Vellimadukunnu.
