Hyderabad: The clash of dates of the TRS public meeting and the Osmania University centenary inaugural fete has kicked up a row.
Student unions from Osmania University are faulting the ruling party for its decision to conduct the public meeting in Warangal on April 27 while Telangana will be busy celebrating the OU Centenary for three days beginning April 26.
Manavatha Rai, OU student leader and chairman of Unemployed JAC, said this was an attempt to divert attention from the prestigious celebrations.
“Osmania stands tall in Telangana history and the rank and file of the TRS party should actively take part in the centenary fete. This should be the first priority for the TRS. A majority of the senior leaders are alumni of the varsity. Holding a party meeting at the same time will steal the limelight from the centenary fete to a certain extent,” he said.
Student unions affiliated to all Opposition parties in OU are demanding that the TRS do a rethink on its public meeting and postpone the date, Mr. Rai said.
The ruling party is expecting a turnout of nearly 15 lakh for this meeting being held to coincide with its formation day.
