Despite heat, power demand in Telangana goes down
Hyderabad: Summers are usually synonymous with greater power consumption, but the demand for electricity has dropped in Telangana state.
In the last 10 days, the power demand has reduced to 172.42 million units from 188.41 MU, a drop of about 16 MU. On Sunday, a holiday, the power demand was 172.42 MU, which is strange as usually domestic power consumption goes up on holidays. In the GHMC area too, power demand has come down slightly. On April 9, the demand in GHMC limits was 51.9 MU against 54.1 MU on April 8.
Chief General Manager, Transco, Hyderabad, Satish Kumar said the average power demand in the GHMC area was about 50 MU per day. The demand rises or falls depending on the weather.
Officials said the power demand has not decreased in the domestic and other sectors. The reason for decrease in the overall demand in the state is that the power consumption in the agricultural sector has declined.
Transco director (transmission & grid operations) G. Narasing Rao said the power consumption in the farm sector was gradually coming down. He said the power consumption in the agriculture sector will further come down till July.
