BBMP won't fix potholes soon!

The work for Rs 730 crore will be taken up and completed before onset of monsoon.

Bengaluru: With the BBMP yet to prepare an action plan and seek approval of the state government for fixing roads, it may be difficult for the civic body to asphalt the potholed city roads before the onset of monsoon.

Sources said if the authorities do not pull up their socks, motorists will have a tough time as the condition of city roads would further worsen during monsoons. The BBMP will also not be in a position to fix the potholes nor do fresh asphalting work during rains. The tendering process needs a minimum of two to two-and-a-half months and another 15 days to issue the order and to take up the physical work.

However, tendering process has been completed for Rs 730 crore, which has been released by the state government. The work for Rs 730 crore will be taken up and completed before onset of monsoon. Besides, Public Works Department (PWD) has already taken up black topping work and going on in full swing, added sources.

BBMP commissioner G. Kumar Naik told Deccan Chronicle that the challenge is to get Rs 4,000 crore from the State Government and mop up a revenue of Rs 4,000 crore to carryout various infrastructure works.

All the committee heads have been asked to prepare action plan to enable the BBMP to seek government approval and take up the necessary preparations. He assured that the process will be expedited soon.
