BMRCL to launch e-autos for last-mile connectivity
Bengaluru: To provide eco-friendly and first- and last-mile connectivity to Metro commuters, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is planning to introduce electric autorickshaws as feeder services from 10 major Metro stations.
Namma Metro commuters have been complaining about lack of connectivity since BMTC cancelled Metro feeder buses which were making losses. But BMRCL officials believe that the new concept of electric autorickshaws will turn in profits for the corporation.
“BMTC feeder services were cancelled because of some reason. Recently, Chennai Metro launched electric autorickshaws, and we are also planning to get them to Bengaluru. During the trial phase, e-autos will be operated from 10 stations and the service will be increased soon,” a BMRCL senior official told Deccan Chronicle.
These electric autos will cover up to 15km around Metro stations. BMRCL is also planning to come up with a mobile app to help passengers book autos.
“This is also the same as other promises made by the government. The plan is good, but we don’t know how the corporation will operate it,” said Abhiram, a Metro commuter.
