Andrew Fleming's tweet on Maqbara angers Asaduddin Owaisi
Hyderabad: British deputy high commissioner Andrew Fleming on Saturday posted the picture of an old monument in Ballapur which has become a dump yard, irking MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi who told the diplomat to remember his position.
Mr Owaisi said on Twitter: “Please remember you’re not Queen’s Governor General, but a diplomat. He cannot tell us how to manage our affairs anymore. Having lived in UK, I know it’s not exactly a utopia. Maybe focus on preventing more Greenfells from happening (sic).”
Mr Fleming, a heritage buff who takes part in heritage walks and cultural events in the city, replied, “I have a passion for heritage as I know do and feel many amazing monuments fall short of their potential. I see sharing observations as a part of modern diplomacy. How does this tweet meddle in your affairs? (sic)”
Mr Owaisi replied, “It does we as an independent country can manage our affairs, monuments and preserve our history, Your Excellency you are crossing all boundaries of a DIPLOMAT it all starts with History. Can you give back Kohinoor, Tipu Sultan’s personal articles? (sic)”
Many people responded on Twitter, with some asking what had made Mr Owaisi angry with others supported his view on the matter.
