Kochi: In times of moral anguish and temporal loss, the Church leaders took upon themselves the task of ‘peaceniks’ and met rival leaders of the land scam-scarred Ernakulam-Angamaly archdiocese of the Syro-Malabar Church on Saturday. Cardinal Baselios Cleemis Catholicos and Kerala Catholic Bishops Council president Soosa Pakiam met Cardinal Mar George Alencherry and leaders of the presbyter council. There was no word on the outcome of the meeting with Dr Alencherry, the Major Archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly.
But the leaders of the Presbyter Council are understood to have told the visiting prelates that there would be no going-back on two issues: moral depravity and the financial loss. Former Syro-Malabar Church spokesperson Paul Thelekat told DC that he could not meet Dr Cleemis and Dr Pakiam, but the church welcomed their efforts to resolve the issue within its forums. “We are not party to the litigation. It’s our sincere desire that issues are settled in-house”.
