Telangana Assembly undergoes sea change
Hyderabad: The composition of the TS Legislative Assembly has changed significantly in the five months since the monsoon session held in October, 2015.
The Opposition TD has almost vanished from the House, the party’s MLAs who had defected to the TRS were seen sitting in treasury benches on the opening day of the Budget session on Thursday.
During the monsoon session, there were 10 TD MLAs sitting in the Opposition benches. The party had won 15 seats in 2014, and five of these 15 MLAs had switched loyalties by October last year.
Another five MLAs, including TD floor leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao joined the TRS following the party’s debacle in Warangal, GHMC and Narayankhed elections recently. Two more are set to join the TRS in a day or two. With this, only A. Revanth Reddy, Sandra Venkata Veeraiah and R. Krishnaiah were seen on the Opposition benches on Day-1 of this session.
While Mr Veeraiah is said to be keen on joining the TRS during this session itself, Mr Krishnaiah has already been maintaining a distance from the TD for over a year. This leaves only Mr Revanth Reddy representing the TD, a party which once ruled the undivided state.
