Techie held for terror links in Bengaluru

Arif, a native of Uttar Pradesh was taken into custody by the police in Bengaluru on Saturday early morning

BENGALURU: Acting on inputs from national intelligence agencies, Bengaluru police on Saturday arrested a person for his alleged links with terror outfits. He was identified as Arif, a software professional.

Arif, a native of Uttar Pradesh was taken into custody by the police at Manjunath Nagara of Thanisandra of Bengaluru city on Saturday early morning.

The person taken into custody by the police had plans to flee the country before he was nabbed by the police, stated Home Minister Araga Jnanendra in a statement. He added that the arrested person had links with international terror outfits and the person in custody has been questioned by the police.

The Home Minister said that a constant vigil has been maintained against those who try to disturb communal harmony and all efforts have been made to put an end to these elements.

Sources told Deccan Chronicle that Arif had terror links for the past two years and was in touch with Al-Qaeda and was working from home. He had allegedly established contacts with terror outfits through websites and social networking sites. It is alleged that Arif had plans to join a terror outfit and wanted to leave for Syria before he was nabbed by the police. A laptop and hard disks were seized from him.

It is said that Arif had alerted his landlord that he would vacate the house he had taken on rent. Neighbours said that Arif rarely came out of the house and hardly spoke with the people in the locality.

Arif had been staying alone in Bengaluru while his wife and two children stay in Aligarh of Uttar Pradesh. He had planned to flee the country alone. Investigations are on.
