Enforcement Directorate officials quiz D K Shivakumar’s mother at farmhouse

The Congress leader faces charges of money-laundering

Bengaluru: Sleuths of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday questioned the 80-year-old mother Congress leader D K Shivakumar as part of their investigation into alleged violations of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Five officials of the investigating agency drove to Shivakumar’s farmhouse in Kodihalli near Kanakapura, 50 km from Bengaluru, for the questioning of Gowramma.

Gowramma had earlier gone to the High Court to complain that ED and income tax officials were harassing her and sought that the charges be dropped against her. The court directed ED to conduct the interrogation at her residence as she could not travel to New Delhi for health and age reasons.

Sources said Gowramma will be quizzed regarding disproportionate assets and unaccounted money allegedly belonging to Shivakumar. The ED expects to get major leads in connection with the PMLA case slapped on the Congress leader.
