Bengaluru: Three try to sell 142 tiger, leopard nails, arrested

The police are currently hunting for the supplier and are investigating to find out the origins of the smuggled goods.

Bengaluru: In a major seizure, the RMC Yard police seized as many as 142 tiger and leopard nails and arrested three people for trying to sell them in black market.

The accused have been identified as Kavith Kumar, 23, Gopiraj alias Gopi, 25, and Sanjay, 21, all three residents of Nagamangala taluk in Mandya district.

On Thursday evening, based on a tipoff, a special team led by Yeshwanthpur ACP Raghuprasad and RMC Yard Inspector Mohammed Mukarram arrested Kavith and Gopiraj from the flower market bus-stop near Yeshwanthpur where the two were allegedly trying to sell tiger and leopard nails.

The police seized 67 nails from them. Based on the information given by them, the police arrested their accomplice Sanjay and seized 78 tiger nails from him.

According to sources, these nails are traditionally considered as a good luck charm and it is believed that wearing them would bring good health. Reportedly, these nails are sold for Rs 1 lakh each in black market.

A senior officer said that the three had purchased the tiger and leopard nails from a person in Hunsur in Mysuru district and brought them to the city to sell them in black market.

The police are currently hunting for the supplier and are investigating to find out the origins of the smuggled goods.
