Chennai: Public seeking changes in Aadhaar cards at taluk offices are put into hardship as the Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited (TACTV), which operates numerous Aadhaar registration and correction centres (including at taluk offices) across the city, stopped working due to technical glitches in its server.
According to sources, nearly 50 people have been sent back home at each service center in the past one week. “In the beginning, TACTV staff asked us to come back within a couple of days. Now, it is been ten days since the server has been down. With the Aadhaar linking deadlines for different purposes getting nearer, remedy is imperative,” said K. Ramakrishnan who visited the Mambalam taluk office for corrections.
However, private browsing centres and post offices have working servers for Aadhaar changes, though most people are unaware of these venues for alterations. “There are two ways to make changes in Aadhaar — online and offline. TACTV offices follow the offline method where they have to collect the changes from people and upload it within five days. When the server is down, the process fails and the computers freeze — the reason most centres are non-functional currently,” said social activist V. Gopalakrishnan.
When contacted, a TACTV official said, “The server is fluctuating for the past four days so for now we have made arrangements to make at least one computer work at Shenoy Nagar, Kodambakkam, Nungambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Velachery, Adyar Sholinganallur. The situation is likely to ease by Monday.”
