Hyderabad High Court fines Andhra Pradesh government officials

The case relates to a contempt petition filed by farmers.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Friday slapped a Rs 24,000 penalty on AP’s principal secretary (irrigation) Sasibhushan Kumar, Kurnool district collector and the land acquisition officer of Somasila project for the delay in paying compensation to farmers.

The case relates to a contempt petition filed by farmers, who parted with their lands for the construction of the Somasila project in Kurnool decades ago, but yet to receive their compensation.

The official appeared before the court following an order by Justice Suresh Kumar Kait for his personal appearance before the court. He sought three mon-ths to settle the issue. The judge said officials were deliberately delaying the payment of compensation.
