Nalgonda senior irrigation engineer nabbed while taking bribe
Hyderabad: A senior engineer of the irrigation department was caught red handed by the ACB while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 1.37 lakh from a contractor to sanction a bill for Rs 32 lakh. The engineer, M. Manik Prabhu, is working at the Alimineti Madhav Reddy (AMR) project in Nalgonda.
Contractor P. Jaipal Reddy, completed construction of the pylon in Shivannagudem village in Nalgonda in June 2015 and submitted bills for Rs 32 lakh. ACB said Prabhu demanded seven per cent of the value as bribe. In December Rs 25 lakh was sanctioned. So he asked the contractor to pay him Rs 1.37 lakh.
“On Wednesday while he was accepting the bribe of Rs 1.37 lakh at the SBH Colony Park in Saidabad he was caught. His right pants pocket also tested colour positive,” said DSP Ashok Kumar.
After seizing the money two teams launched raids at his residence in Saidabad and his office at Dindi. The Chief Minister had inaugurated the project in June 2015.
“We have seized documents and are examining them. Based on that we will proceed,” added Mr Ashok Kumar. Manik Prabhu was produced before the ACB special court after his arrest.
