Thiruvananthapuram: The cabinet on Wednesday decided to reduce the KSRTC ordinary bus fare by Re 1 in the wake of global crude oil price crash.
At the cabinet briefing here, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the minimum fare in KSRTC ordinary buses would come down to Rs 6 from Rs 7. The government expected the private bus operators also to reduce the fare on par with KSRTC buses.
He said through the crude oil prices had come down significantly, its benefits had not reached the people. “We had taken up the matter with the Centre seeking relief for the people in view of the crash in crude oil prices. The decision to reduce the bus fare is to provide direct benefit to the common man,” he added.
