10 new measles cases noted in Malappuram

Health workers have concentrated their work in identified vulnerable panchayats to prevent fatalities.

Malappuram: Ten cases of Measles have been confirmed in Vattamulam panchayat according to a survey conducted by the district health authorities. Of the total reported cases, three are from a family and none of them have been vaccinated, said District Medical Officer, Dr. V Ummer Farook.

Health workers have concentrated their work in identified vulnerable panchayats to prevent fatalities. As part of the move, an extensive survey will also be conducted in these panchayats. Health workers have been collecting samples for tests to identify life threatening illnesses in these localities. “We routinely send these samples to labs in Pune or Bangalore,” Dr. Farook said.

According the DMO, 1,72,000 children in the age group of 7-16 are either partially vaccinated or not vaccinated in the district due to the tough resistance from the public. The health authorities are putting in an all out efforts to overcome it.
