Ministers Hail Ambedkar Statue Unveiling on Jan. 19

Vijayawada: Deputy Chief Minister Pidika Rajanna Dora and BC Welfare Minister Chelluboina Venugopalakrishna have hailed the installation of the 125-feet-tall Ambedkar statue in Vijayawada on January 19.

They were speaking at a meeting of the chairmen of 56 BC corporations as also the BC, SC, ST chairmen and directors of other corporations from 139 castes held at Tadepalli on Wednesday.

Rajanna Dora said the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar is a matter of special pride for Andhra Pradesh. “The decision taken by chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to install the Ambedkar statue in the heart of Vijayawada city is itself historic,” he said.

“Ambedkar statues are usually seen in Dalit villages or colonies at the end of every village. But Jagan Mohan Reddy set the Ambedkar statue in the heart of Vijayawada city,” he noted.

Minister Venugopalakrishna said that the unveiling of the Ambedkar statue should be celebrated on the lines of a festival.

“We can see the statue of Ambedkar at a height of about 195 feet, along with the stage that is being set up under the statue like nowhere else in the country,” he said.

MLC Lella Appi Reddy and chairmen of various corporations explained how the schemes implemented by Jagan Mohan Reddy are benefiting the BC, SC, ST and minority communities.

The YSRC leaders noted, "CM Jagan Mohan Reddy is following Ambedkar's dictum -- People's representatives are their servants, not rulers."
