Hyderabad: A total of 1.5 lakh will be constructed in rural Telangana state, against requests received for more than 2 lakh. Duplication of applications was stated by officials was one of the reasons for this. Officials have rejected 73,000 applications so far. The Swacch Telangana team had estimated that it would need to build 3 lakh toilets in the state. Apart from the 1.5 lakh toilets in the rural areas, 5,000 will be built in semi-urban and urban areas.
In Hyderabad, 329 toilets are accessible for various categories and the GHMC has 34 e-toilets. In the urban slums 2,135 toilets have been constructed in places which did not have them.
An official said geo-tagging of homes where toilets had been built had helped them in verifying data. As many as 1,47,575 toilets had been constructed in the rural areas and the rest would be built soon.
