Women voters outnumber men in Chennai
Chennai: Sixteen Assembly constituencies in Chennai districts have 38,01,919 voters, according to the special summary revision of electoral rolls released on Wednesday.
“Of over 38 lakh voters in Chennai districts, 19,24,366 voters are women and 18,76,652 are men apart from 901 transgender voters,” district electoral officer and Chennai corporation commissioner D. Karthikeyan said.
Following the draft rolls released in October 2017, 41,485 applications were received requesting inclusion of names, of which 879 applications haud been rejected. Furthermore, 2,252 applications sought removal of names from the list.
“We have deleted 3,12,390 names from the list on the grounds of disqualification. Of the total 2,71,784 names have been deleted from the draft electoral list,” Karthikeyan said.
According to the Chennai corporation press release, among the 16 constituencies, Perambur constituency has the highest number voters of 3,00,844, whereas Harbour constituency has the least number of voters.
Among 1,65,610 voters in Harbour constituency, 78,921 are women.
R.K. Nagar, which was in the spotlight for nearly a year, has 2,25,566 votes with 94 transgender voters, highest among the 16 constituencies. Chepauk – Triplicane constituency has only 27 transgender voters among total voters of 2,26,227.
“Photo identity cards to 35,194 new voters (who completed 18 years on January 1) and other new voters will be distributed at in the polling booths on January 25, on the occasion of the national voters day Karthikeyan said.
