Vijayawada: All set for Sankranti Festival
Vijayawada: Colorful, cozy tents with air conditioning facility. Seafood available aplenty. Children playing in the garden or swimming in a pool.
This is Nagayalanka in Krishna district, only a few kilometres away from Vijayawada, where the tourism department has made 16 tented huts and created an environment that is supremely pleasant, relaxing and perfect for a family outing. At Rs5,000 a day, it is perhaps a small price to pay for the comfort it offers.
The executive director of tourism Mallikarjun said, "It is the first time we are doing this in our area. To encourage tourism in this area, we started the boat festival last year. Now, this special attraction has been arranged. Families can come and enjoy at this place like they would in a resort or in an amusement park. This place is beautiful and naturally shaded." The tourism department named this place "Navalanka".
Families are expected to throng the area during the popular boat festival. This year, the festival proposes to be different. This time 36 teams will participate in three categories.
Each team will have 9 persons. First category is Kola Padavalu, second category is Meddudu Padavalu, the third category is Drogan Padavalu. A total of 108 teams, with 972 people will participate in this competition.
Special programmes will be organised on the occasion of Sankranti. Competitions like rangoli have been arranged. Musical night and other cultural programmes have also been arranged.
