HYDERABAD: The Telangana government and contract lecturers are heading for a showdown over the issue of revision of wages. Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari appealed to the lecturers boycotting duties for more than ten days now, to resume work from January 12. He warned them that they stand to lose regularisation chance if they continued to skip duties. The lecturers said that they will up the ante after two days.
Mr. Srihari said that the government enhanced wages of contract lecturers by 50 per cent (increased to Rs 27,000 from the previous Rs 18,000) based on G.O-14 issued by the finance department that recommended 50 per cent hike in salaries of contract and outsourcing staff. Also, the State Cabinet gave its nod for regularising services of contract employees, but the process came to an unexpected halt because of the Osmania students approaching the court, he said.
He felt the agitation, which was politically motivated, was not acceptable considering the fact that the government has taken initiatives for the employees and for building infrastructure and other facilities in colleges.
