Karnataka High Court stops Indiranagar open street festival'
Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday restrained respondents, including Shantinagar MLA N.A. Haris, from conducting 'Open Street Festival' on 100 feet road in HAL 2nd stage at Indiranagar.
Local residents, spearheaded by RWAs, had been opposing the proposed festival. The court passed the directions following a petition filed by a local resident and former DGP C. Dinakar (76). The former top cop had alleged that the festival was a 'personal event' promoted by the MLA and would disturb local residents.
In his defence, the MLA, through his advocate, made it clear that it was just a proposal, which is being kept in abeyance. The case has been adjourned to January 16.
Bail to Jayachandra
The High Court has granted conditional bail to suspended Chief Planning Officer of the Karnataka State Highways Improvement Project, S. C. Jayachandra. The CBI registered an FIR against him and others following an IT raid on his residence.
Rapist’s plea adjourned
The high court adjourned the plea of psychopath rapist B.A. Umesh Reddy seeking commutation of his death sentence. Meanwhile, the central government and state government filed their statements of objections to his plea. The state said in its objection that the convict is mentally stable and sought for the rejection of his plea. The convict has been behind bars for more than 18 years, including 10 years of solitary confinement.
