Bengalureans pick holes in BBMP's pothole claim

As per the latest survey done by BBMP officials on December 5, there are only 35 potholes in all of its eight zones.

Bengaluru: BBMP’s claim that there are only 35 potholes to be filled has not gone well with citizens and they are getting roasted on social media. As per the latest survey done by BBMP officials on December 5, there are only 35 potholes in all of its eight zones.

Many users are challenging BBMP officials that they can show more than 35 potholes on a single stretch of a road. They slammed the government and the civic body for not being able to keep roads free from potholes, but aims for an elevated corridor project at a whopping cost of Rs 25,000 crore.

One of the Twitter users called BBMP statistics as the biggest joke of the year. "Comedy of the year 2019. Are you serious BBMP ? Do you know what road is ?" read a tweet by Gobind Vijay.

He also slammed the shoddy work done by BBMP and said, "BBMP patches and by the end of the day it's worse than earlier."

It was not only citizens who raised their voice against the BBMPs claim. Some were seen comparing the pothole filling exercise with state's ambitious elevated corridor. They said that the government does not have the capacity to fill potholes but has the money and other resources to build Rs 25,000 crore elevated corridor zig zagging the city roads. Malleswaram MLA Dr Ashwath Narayan said, "Just 35 potholes left to be filled in Bengaluru, really Mr BBMP Commissioner?" Either the BBMP is living in a fool's paradise or there is something seriously wrong with the way civic officials are counting the potholes. More than 35 potholes are created everyday thanks to their shabby work, Dr Narayan said.
