5 held for kidnapping baby, 4 absconding
Hyderabad: The Railway Police of Secunderabad solved the baby kidnapping case and arrested five men, including the person seen in the CCTV footage with the eight-month-old baby boy early last week.
A gang of nine men conspired to steal and sell the baby, said Superintendent of Railway Police, G Ashok Kumar.
He said they were not running a racket but stole the baby because a person in their circle wanted to adopt a baby.
“We have arrested five men now and after we nab the absconding four men, the whole picture will be revealed,” Mr Ashok Kumar said.
The arrested were identified as Shaik Ghouse, 28, an auto driver, Kota Ramakrishna, 40, an assistant director from Balanagar, Vonkudoth Biku, 25, Sankati Laxman and Vemula Babu Reddy, 42. Four more men involved in the offence are yet to be caught.
“The parents of baby Eshwar and Ghouse were homeless people residing at Vidyanagar railway station and the parents used to beg for a living. On the night of November 29, Ghouse and Eshwar's parents consumed toddy and went to sleep on the platform of Lalaguda Railway Station. Ghouse took the baby away at 6 the next morning and boarded an autorickshaw. The CC camera showed him getting down from the auto in the Rathifile area near Secunderabad Railway Station,” said the police official.
Following a complaint, special teams were formed by the Railway Police and the CC camera footage helped them trace the auto driver and Ghouse, who was the prime suspect.
The five men arrested by the police were produced before the court and sent to judicial remand.
