Karnataka: Online SSLC registration deadline put off to December 20

Authorities of schools blame it on low server capacity and claim they are able to complete a handful of registrations per day.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) has extended the deadline for schools to carry out online registration of students for the SSLC exams in March 2018, to December 20 from December 10, not even half of the students have so far registered. Authorities of schools blame it on low server capacity and claim they are able to complete a handful of registrations per day.

On Thursday evening, only 3.2 lakh students out of 8.5 lakhs, had their registration completed. KSEEB had to extend the deadline due to technical difficulties. “The server is down most of the time and we are able to update information of only 2-3 students per day. We have complained to the board with no avail,” said Chandrashekar, Principal, BET School in Chikkabanavara.

D Shashi Kumar, General Secretary, Associated Managements of Private School In Karnataka (KAMS) said, “Schools across the state are facing data entry woes. We had pleaded several times to increase server capacity and other issues of member schools.” He added that the government should provide more resources to handle the volume of data. "We support the online procedure, but demand that officials resolve technical requirements on a war footing," Kumar said.

“This process requires huge server resources. The application at present can take about 8,000 users at a time. We have a dedicated server and team to monitoring speed and usage. This system is to simplify the process of data capture and save time in later processing of data. Rearranging the server in the data centre is being taken up and the performance will improve,” assured P.C. Jaffer, Commissioner, Department of public instruction.
