Bengaluru: MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar proposes Childgrid to stop child trafficking

Mr Chandrasekhar requested Dr Alva and KSCPCR to take the leadership of the movement.

Bengaluru: Rajya Sabha member Rajeev Chandrasekhar proposed a Childgrid (child safety grid) to create a movement to gather intelligence around potential trafficking of children for commercial sexual exploitation. The data gathered can also help the police nab criminals, he said at a panel discussion by the National Coalition for Protection of Children (NCPOC) on Saturday.

Dr Kripa Amar Alva, Chairperson, Karnataka SCPCR, D. Roopa, ex-DIG, prisons, Dr P.M. Nair, Professor, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, and Mr Roop Sen took part in the discussion. Mr Chandrasekhar requested Dr Alva and KSCPCR to take the leadership of the movement. Dr Alva said, “If every child is mandatorily sent to school up to the age of 18 then we will not see any children selling roses or pens at traffic signals. None of us are taking the initiative. Majority of the citizens do not know that there is a child helpline.”
