KT Rama Rao warns GHMC officials
Hyderabad: “No more suspensions, but dismissal from service for town planning officials who fail to check illegal constructions,” said minister K.T. Rama Rao following the collapse of the building at Nanakramguda. However, the GHMC has only suspended deputy municipal commissioner, Serillingampally, V. Manohar, and assistant city planner, Krishna Mohan.
Going by the record, suspended officers frequently make it back to office through influence. Speaking to DC, the minister said, “It is builders’ greed that led to the incident. Most buildings are being constructed with poor quality material, and by unqualified builders who ignore regulations. Fear of punishment needs to be drilled into their minds.”
“The GHMC does its work by sending notices and taking up demolition. But the parties approach the court and get stay. In the case of Film Nagar Culture Club, GHMC had sealed the premises after the collapse. However, the court permitted the club to be reopened.”
“The government requests the judiciary to stand by the government in these cases,” he said.
