Hyderabad building collapse: For survivor, it was like a bomb

Rekha and Deepak were pulled out of the wreck at dawn, and taken to the Continental Hospital at 5.45 am.

Hyderabad: Rekha, 25, who survived the building collapse at Nanakramguda along with her three-year-old son Deepak, thought a bomb had exploded when the structure came crashing down.

Rekha, who came from Chhattisgarh, said, “My son, my husband and I were on the ground floor when the ‘bomb’ fell (building collapsed). I held my son close to me. There was heavy weight on us and we could not move at all. I kept shouting for help,” she said.

Mom, child pulled out at dawn
Rekha and Deepak were pulled out of the wreck at dawn, and taken to the Continental Hospital at 5.45 am. Rekha had suffered a pelvic fracture and Deepak external injuries. Both of them were shifted to ICU later. Dr P Sree Sowjanya, head of the emergency department said, "The mother and child are out of immediate danger and are haemodynamically stable. They will be kept in ICU for observation. Tests will be conducted to see if there is any head injury or injury to internal organs. They will be observed for the symptoms of head injuries as well like vomitings."
